In an appendix to his biography of Albert Ayler, Jeff Schwartz includes a section on the responses to the inclusion of Ayler tracks in the ‘Blindfold Test’ feature of Down Beat. During Ayler’s lifetime, his music was included in six ‘tests’ for the following musicians: Booker Ervin, Oliver Nelson, James Moody,Sonny Simmons & Prince Lasha, Jerome Richardson and Jean-Luc Ponty.
